What's it like to live in Ridglea Country Club Estates?
There's one way into Ridglea Country Club Estates, off Southwest Boulevard, and the neighborhood wraps around Ridglea Country Club's championship course in southwest Fort Worth, with most homes built between 1966 and 1980. That single entrance shapes daily life more than you'd guess. There's no cut-through traffic, so the streets stay quiet.
It's a neighborhood people tend to choose on purpose. Some want a house on the golf course. Others just want a calm, self-contained subdivision that's still close to Camp Bowie and the rest of the west side.
Where is Ridglea Country Club Estates?
It covers about 184 acres, seven to eight miles west of downtown Fort Worth, and it's reached only from Southwest Boulevard. Most of the subdivision is inside Fort Worth city limits, but part of it lies in the City of Benbrook. (Ridglea Country Club Estates Homeowners Association)
That city split matters. A house on the Benbrook side has Benbrook city services and pays Benbrook's city tax rate instead of Fort Worth's. Before you compare two houses here, check which city each one is in on the Tarrant Appraisal District record. If you end up on the Benbrook side, my guide to living in Benbrook gives you a feel for that city.
How it compares with the other Ridglea neighborhoods
This is the newest of the three. Ridglea North was platted in 1928 and is built around Berney Park, just north of Camp Bowie. Ridglea Hills is mostly 1950s and '60s mid-century homes between Camp Bowie and Vickery. Ridglea Country Club Estates came along a decade or more later, farther southwest, and it was designed from the start around a golf course with a homeowners association.
A short history
J.T. Luther and Fritz Barton bought the land and began developing it in 1966. The plan included an 18-hole championship course and clubhouse owned by Ridglea Country Club. (RCCE HOA history) The club's second course, today's South course, opened in 1967. (Ridglea Country Club)
In 1970, the Earnest Allen Development Company was formed to handle residential lot sales. The homeowners association was organized that same year and chartered on March 31, 1970. Later, in 1997, the Allen Place Homeowners Association merged into it. (RCCE HOA history)
What kind of homes are in Ridglea Country Club Estates?
Most homes were built from the late 1960s to about 1980. Expect mostly one-story brick homes with side or rear entry garages, a few two-stories scattered through, and a share of them backing to the golf course. Because lots were sold off over a number of years, the houses vary more from one to the next than in a typical tract subdivision.
Homes from this era have their own checklist. I'd pay attention to roofs, original windows, aging HVAC systems, and plumbing, plus how well any additions were tied into the original house. On golf course lots, look at drainage toward the course and ask how stray balls affect the backyard and windows. It's a small thing until it isn't.
Is there an HOA?
Yes. The Ridglea Country Club Estates Homeowners Association has been around since 1970 as a nonprofit corporation. Ask for the current dues, deed restrictions, and any architectural rules before you're under contract, especially if you're planning exterior changes.
One thing people get confused about: living here doesn't make you a member of Ridglea Country Club. The club is private and has its own membership process, separate from buying a house.
What schools serve Ridglea Country Club Estates?
Most of the west side is Fort Worth ISD, but with a subdivision that crosses a city line, I wouldn't assume anything. Look up the exact address on the district's School Finder, and confirm with the district before you buy.
What's near Ridglea Country Club Estates?
Day to day, most errands run up Southwest Boulevard to Camp Bowie West or over to Vickery. A few places, all open when I checked in fall 2026:
- Cancun Mexican Restaurant, 7419 Camp Bowie W Blvd, family-owned Mexican food since 2000.
- Fred's Texas Cafe, 7101 Camp Bowie W Blvd.
- Japanese Palace, 8445 Camp Bowie W Blvd.
- Campisi's, 6150 Camp Bowie Blvd.
- Swiss Pastry Shop, 3936 W Vickery Blvd, making Black Forest cake since 1973.
- Ridglea Theater, 6025 Camp Bowie Blvd, for live music and shows.
- Kroger, 9114 Camp Bowie West Blvd, for groceries.
The Cultural District and downtown are farther than from the older Ridglea neighborhoods, but I-30 makes it manageable.
The honest trade-offs
The single entrance is the best and worst thing about the neighborhood. It keeps traffic out and gives the place a private feel. It also means everyone funnels through the same spot on Southwest Boulevard, and if that entrance is blocked for any reason, there's no back way out.
The golf course gives you open views and green space you don't have to maintain. You also give up some privacy on course lots and live with the occasional errant ball.
The homes are bigger than in a lot of west side neighborhoods. But many are 45 to 60 years old, so updating costs can add up, and the HOA layer means more rules than in Ridglea Hills or Ridglea North.
It's a good fit if you want space and quiet streets in a structured neighborhood, or if you golf and plan to join the club. If you want walkable restaurants or a house that needs nothing, it's probably not your spot.
